Desiderium
Today I was blinded by memories,
emotions impaired, thoughts absent.
I heard nothing clearly.
All this while, it tried to speak—
but the road kept interrupting.
Only now do I understand:
Time doesn’t like us anymore.
It spoke for three hours
as I drifted down this ribbon of cement.
I tried imagining home,
some safer skin to cover me from its words.
But nothing yearned for you.
So I told myself the truth:
Time doesn’t like us anymore.
It replayed your smile—
I ignored it.
I hissed it quiet,
yet it reopened the smell of you.
I sighed,
making room for that sweet, lingering pain,
as my aching heart repeated:
Time doesn’t like us anymore.
A sudden jolt along the road
Cut through the haze.
I blinked hard, felt the darkness.
This quick familiarity—
my life has become this.
Nothing invites you back.
Still, I’ll keep ignoring,
until I finish this journey,
until something returns.
For the truth remains—
Time doesn’t like us anymore.

Anyway, beyond how beautifully written this is, I think my favourite part is the refrain: "Time doesn't like us anymore." Every time it returns, it carries a slightly different weight. At first, it sounds like grief; then it becomes realization; and by the end, acceptance. It's such a simple line, but it says what an entire paragraph couldn't: that sometimes nothing terrible happened. Time simply moved on, and it refused to take us with it. Which, I suppose, is the most hurtful part of all, tbh.
Anyway, I'll add mine too, because somehow, I think I can relate.
I reached back to borrow yesterday.
But even my heart refused the flame.
Some doors close from both sides.
I suppose ours was one of them.
Time doesn't like us anymore.
Thank youuu, again, for this masterpiece. Love it sm.
